I first started out in Del Mar over at Seagrove Park for the ceremony. It was beautiful out on the grass near the ocean. After the ceremony I had to pack up and head out to the Rancho Bernardo Inn for the reception in the Santiago Ballroom. It was sort of a crazy drive at 5:30pm on a Friday but I made it without any problems. Cocktail hour was held out on the patio so I provided a small speaker system with some excellent background music they selected. The reception held inside the ballroom went off without any glitches. We showed two different slide shows during the first and third course of dinner. It was nice to spread them out a little. Dancing went pretty well tonight. A funny highlight moment was when the wedding party did a choreographed dance to “Thriller” from Michael Jackson. The room was a little warm so everyone ended the night outside on the patio (over at the bar). Darryn St. John shot the photography. It is always a pleasure to work with him. Victoria from Theory Weddings And Events helped coordinate the evening.

This week I was over at L’Auberge Del Mar for a wonderful wedding. Dinner was held upstairs out on the deck overlooking the ocean and dancing moved downstairs into the ballroom where we created a club style atmosphere. The bride is a concert pianist so music was very important to this couple. Their entire theme was based around music. The unique wedding cake was a piano, their custom monogram that was projected onto the waterfall outside and onto the dance floor inside was made up to look like a heart from music notes. Kathy Wright & Co. brought in the florals, cool white lounge furniture, a white dance floor, and amazing wooden grid walls that were used to create lounge spaces withing the room. The coordinators from EverAfter Events took care of many of the important details and helped create a flawless event.

You can see the difference the lighting makes in setting the mood and creating interest in the room. The first photo is without any lighting with the lights set at a dinner level, the second photo is with the lighting on with the general lights still set at a dinner level, the third photo is what happens when we dim the lights to really get the atmosphere we want to create. The difference is pretty amazing…

Tonight’s wedding was held at The Dana. Cocktail hour was held outside so we were lucky the rain stopped just in time. The room looked great. They selected a light green as their color and butterflies as their theme. I used 8 uplights throughout the room to add some color to the walls and to help warm things up. I also spotlighted the cake which makes a world of difference from across the room, as well as, enhancing the photographer’s images. You can see before and after pictures below that I took before the event started. All of the events ran a little late due to groomsmen troubles but once we got that all worked out we continued with the party. Great group to work with…

This morning I was over at the Oceanview Club on the Point Loma Submarine Base for a 50th Anniversary Party. They planned to have the renewal of vows ceremony outside on the grass but it was raining in San Diego!?! We moved inside and guests enjoyed the morning. A little food, a piece of cake, and a bit of dancing made for an enjoyable morning event to honor this couple.

I was fortunate enough to take a few weeks off this summer to go to the beautiful island of St. Lucia. I had the opportunity to stay at the most amazing resort EVER… Jade Mountain (along with a few other resorts)!

Here is a little info about Jade Mountain – St. Lucia
Each sanctuary (never called a room for good reason) at Jade Mountain is a carefully designed, individual work of art and architecture. Every seductive suite is endowed with a massive private infinity pool and jacuzzi. These beauties are part of your living room, and are lined with iridescent reflective tiles and fiber-optic lights that can be dimmed or color selected to set any mood. The sanctuaries have 15 high foot ceilings and are open to the elements, without a fourth wall, so you have a breathtaking view of the Caribbean Sea and St. Lucia’s double peaks, the famed Pitons. Couples are given a cell phone upon arrival that will connect them to their very own personal Major Domo. If they forget a book while they are on the beach, need a cold drink in the pool, or would like to order dinner served in their sanctuary all they have to do is call. Many couples never even step one toe out of their room with the help of this outstanding 24 hour butler service. Delectable meals can be sent to their room for breakfast, lunch and dinner while masseuses dressed in crisp whites float in like wisps of clouds from time to time, perform their magic, and then leave again without so much as a whisper.

.
“The bellman was about to call a doctor. Doubled over with laughter and glee, I’m sure I looked ill. That’s the kind of response Jade Mountain’s rooms elicit. Some people have spontaneously leaped up and down, while others have burst into tears. Talk about a room with a view.”

Enjoyed scuba diving every morning and cold drinks on the beach every afternoon (along with sailing, beach volleyball, and water skiing). Here are a few photos from the other resorts and island:

Check out the flowers, chandelier, and canopy on that sweetheart table! It was a long drive but well worth it! Tonight I was up at the Hilton Waterfront in Huntington Beach for an amazing wedding. As you can see there were more flowers on their sweetheart table than at most weddings! The room looked amazing with the large centerpieces, the cool white lounge furniture, and the lighting that pulled it all together. We used 24 uplights, cake spotlighting, and a monogram on the dance floor to create the overall effect. One of the best looking weddings I have been to… Amazing candy bar topped it all off. The crowd was a fun dancing group and the evening went off without a hitch thanks to the help of Laura and Joanna from Unforgettable Event Coordinators.

It was a long drive but well worth the effort once I arrived. The wedding was at a private estate tonight with the reception held in an enormous 250 person clear tent out on a large grassy area just beyond the pool. There were many unique and personal touches to this wedding. To start with the gifts were all dropped off in a wooden sailboat leaning on it’s side next to the guest book. The ceremony was on a large grassy hill under a huge tree which looked amazing as the backdrop. Cocktail hour was held out by the pool with one of my favorite items… a full sushi bar. The tables looked amazing in the large clear tent with five hanging chandeliers. The black and white checkered dance floor added a fun element. The candy bar had older vintage style candy to go along with their theme. The food was amazing (a four course meal as you can see by the silverware on the tables). Dinner took over two hours so it was a bit long but guests did not walk away hungry. Later on in the evening milk and cookies were brought out as a surprise for the groom (his favorite). Dancing went really well despite dinner taking up so much time. They were ready to have some fun. It tapered off towards the end but I think that was because guests had to drive a long way home. A very impressive wedding to say the least.

Tonight’s wedding was over at the Coronado Community Center. A few great things about this location are the fact that you are right on the water, there is a nice outside patio for cocktail hour, the reception room is modern yet warm, and the entire location is fairly new. It seemed that is was a very reserved group during the entrance (very little clapping or noise) and dinner hour so I thought it would turn out to be a mellow evening. Once dancing kicked into full gear they were out there having a great time! It is always a nice surprise. A few unique personal touches: They had someone hand paint all of the table numbers with orchids and flowers which looked amazing, there was a frozen dessert bar with all sorts of unknown cold treats, and three close friends got together and played their first dance live. The cake spotlighting and uplighting I provided looked amazing tonight! The cake provided some of the best photos I have been able to capture. I can’t wait to see the professional photos their photographer Jared Bauman took. He had a slideshow going with some beautiful shots. Melanie Montoya from Something Blue Weddings helped coordinate the evening without any glitches.

I am excited that one of my weddings this last year is featured in the recent Ceremony Magazine. This publication is very exclusive featuring only the best wedding professionals and venues. It is exciting because you submit it but you have no idea if it will get published until the magazine comes out. Here is a link to the featured article: Christy & Josh’s Wedding
Enjoy!

Tonight’s wedding was over on Shelter Island at Humphrey’s By The Bay. The ceremony was out on the lawn. It was perfect wedding weather for them. I was able to work with officiant Jerry Bryant again today. He always does the best job. The group tonight did not leave the dance floor (especially this little guy that danced during the entire dinner and kept stealing the show all night long… see picture below). It was one of those nights where I could have kept playing for another two to three hours. Time flies when you are having fun! I provided some uplights around the room that added some color to the walls. I also spotlighted the cake and it really made a huge difference! I heard many guests commenting on how it looked like it was glowing from across the room. Exactly what I try to achieve. You can see the “before” and “after” pictures below.
