MOCA Wedding CakeThe Museum of Contemporary Art La Jolla is always one of my favorite places to work at mainly because it is an interesting space and I have always been into modern art (not to mention the lighting possibilities!) We had the ceremony outside on the patio with my favorite Minister Jerry Bryant this evening. Cocktail hour was held downstairs in the Coast Room. Guests then moved upstairs for the reception where Guiseppe Catering was busy with three excellent food stations. It was perfect timing because it was just getting dark and all the uplighting that I had done in the room was beginning to come to life. Look at the before and after pictures below to really get a great idea of what lighting can do for any reception space! They had a cool lounge area back by the artwork that Haydee from Concepts Event Design provided. John from Aquario Studio Photography documented the evening on film. I am interested to get some of his photos of the lighting in the room since my small camera doesn’t really do these photos justice. Organic Elements did some minimal floral centerpieces that fit well in the modern space. We kicked off dancing with a slightly older music set to make sure all of the family members and family friends were happy. Once we cut the cake a little later we kicked things into high gear. I played more current music and mostly club remixes for the rest of the night. They seemed conservative early on in the evening but got pretty wild the last hour. Excellent well rounded wedding.

Extras Provided: 19 custom colored uplights, slide show projection equipment

Perfect weather today out at Marina Village for a ceremony & reception. The ceremony was held out on the North Lawn with a great view of the boats and docks. After the ceremony guests moved into the Captain’s room for the reception. Cocktail hour was a blast as guests were able to go out on a large boat for a quick spin around the bay. We kicked things off with their first dance and the wedding party got into the act. They were dong the “wave” to certain moments in the song. It was great and added some fun to their dance. The rest of the evening went really well. Guests danced to a large variety of music. The 10 uplights in the room put some color on the all white walls.
Extras Provided: 10 Custom Colored Uplights

The Darlington House in La Jolla is a great option if you are looking for a location that you can have the ceremony and reception at the same place. They do have noise restrictions so the music can’t get very loud but it is just loud enough to dance to. We had the ceremony in the fountain courtyard, cocktail hour in the library patio courtyard, and the dinner reception in the main large courtyard. It was a fairly conservative group tonight. They danced the entire time and the energy level was appropriate for this type of location. Joanna Falb with Unforgettable Event helped to coordinate the evening. Peartrees Catering provided the food and Sweet Cheeks Baking Co. delivered the cake.

Tonight’s ceremony and reception were out at the Rancho Bernardo Inn Aragon Ballroom. The ceremony was out on the Aragon lawn. Guests moved inside for cocktail hour and the reception. The groom and groomsmen were really into the video game Halo so we kicked off the grand entrance with the Halo2 Theme song. Once we opened up the dance floor there were always people out there dancing but it wasn’t one of those wild packed dance floor nights. It was a conservative group and the event was going until 10pm on a Sunday which probably played a slight role in it all. They enjoyed the evening and the events went off without a hitch. Adorations provided the flowers and centerpieces which used a nice combination of glass, stones, wood, flowers, and candles. Darin Fong captured the photographs throughout the evening.

It was a hot one! Close to 95 degrees this weekend on the coast over at the Bahia Resort. Lucky for me the outdoor ceremony near the pond didn’t start until 6pm when it was a little cooler. An interesting twist in the ceremony was where the guys and girls walked in from both sides of the ceremony and then the bride walked down the middle. After the ceremony we moved up to the top of the tower on the 5th floor for the reception in the Mission Bay Ballroom. It is a great room because you have windows on both sides. An amazing sunset on one side and then Sea World fireworks at 9:50pm on the other side during the summer. I was looking forward to this wedding because I DJ’d the bride’s sister’s wedding about 5 years ago. It was a solid dancing group the entire night! The highlight wedding for this weekend was over at the Powerhouse Del Mar for the ceremony and reception. The ceremony was out in Seagrove Park within walking distance of the reception. There is no electricity outside so I had to provide a battery operated system to take care of the music and microphone. We moved over to the Powerhouse for the cocktail hour outside on the patio with amazing views of the ocean. Dinner was held inside, as well as, dancing later on. Chile Co. Catering provided the amazing food. They always do an excellent job with extremely unique tastes! The groom was from Hawaii and they had unique centerpieces tonight consisting of native Hawaiian plants. The table names were islands and locations around the Hawaiian islands. I tried to play a variety of music tonight to make sure all ages had a great time. I had to go into a longer “oldies” set than normal while all the young friends of the bride & groom were taken outside for a few group photos. The older guests really kept things going… It was a good group tonight especially since it was a Sunday night wedding that went until 10pm. This weekend I was out at the Inn At Rancho Santa Fe. This wedding required tons of work on my part due to four separate locations needing sound. I had to have multiple systems to cover the ceremony on the grass, cocktail hour by the pool, dinner/toasts/important dances outside in the garden, and dancing inside the Azalea Room. A nice unique touch (that I have not seen before) was out at the ceremony they laid out a huge path of actual lavender (instead of using a white runner) and then the flower girl threw the flowers on top of it as she walked down. They continued with this theme naming all of the tables various spices and herbs. Inside the room they had a great looking chocolate cake with more lavender spread all around the base of the cake stand. It really made the room smell great! I used the white “starry” lights to add a little movement up on the ceiling and create some interest in the room for dancing. Tonight I had a great team of vendors with me as Kevin Roche was taking care of the photography and Mia from Red Letter Days helped coordinate the event. I was just at the Coronado Community Center last week and now I am back again for another wedding! The ceremony was held outside on the grass and looked amazing. It was set in a circle with the bride and groom in the center. Guests had a great view from all angles. The reception looked great. I added 8 colored uplights and the white starry lights on the ceiling to create the look they were going for. Lighting can really help out any room! Instead of a cake tonight they had about 10 different flavors of cheesecake beautifully displayed on top of glass vases filled with fruit and flowers. Dancing went pretty well tonight. It was great to see a couple who I DJ’d for 5 years ago (at their wedding). Everyone enjoyed the night.

The ceremony today was held out at Centennial Park on Coronado with a great view of downtown skyline! They then rented a large bus to transport their guests over to the Bali Hai on Shelter Island. Tonight I was outside at the Bali Hai under their newly built structure. It looks great and has a modern feel to it. They are going to start renovating the inside early next year. It should look amazing once it is complete! The wedding party arrived by boat and guests started dancing before dinner (see dancing picture below while it was still daylight). After dinner the reception completely went off. The dance floor was 100% packed all night (even a little crowd surfing took place which I don’t remember ever seeing at the last 987 weddings). They ended up extending my time for an extra two hours. Easily one of the best weddings I have done this year. Here is a link to the photographer Jamie Moore’s video slideshow: VIEW VIDEO  The coordinators from Luxe Events helped with the flow of the events and evening. Amazing wedding…

Tonight I was out at the Coronado Community Center for the ceremony and reception. The ceremony was held out on the grass overlooking the San Diego Bay. Guests then moved over to the outdoor patio for cocktail hour. I had to bring tons of equipment for this wedding. The uplights looked great surrounding the outer edge of the room and the cake spotlighting really made that white cake pop out from across the room! They showed a fun slide show at the end of dinner. It takes longer to set it all up but the results look great and it really changes the entire look of the event. It was a really nice and polite group to work with this evening. They enjoyed the dancing (the groom enjoyed it most of all because he kept having to sit down for a few minutes to cool off). Here is a short video highlight from the wedding provided by Garner Films: Chad & Rilee’s Wedding Highlight Video

Extras Provided: 8 uplights, cake spotlights, video/slide show projection equipment.
